This page describes what the Speakdos website and app (operated by Speakdos LLC) actually record, where each record comes from, what it is used for and where it is kept. It is a plain description of current practice, not a statement about compliance with any particular law. The Educational Disclaimer & Terms you accept in the app remain in force and are unchanged by this page.
What stays in your browser
The app keeps your settings and progress in your own browser's storage so it works without an account: your languages and dialect, level, completed lessons, streak, display preferences, whether you have accepted the Educational Disclaimer, and a record of a membership purchase so Premium stays unlocked on that device. It also creates:
- a random device reference (
sd-ref), kept until you clear this site's data; and - a random visit reference (
sd-visit) with the traffic labels the visit arrived with, kept only for that browser tab and gone when it closes.
Speakdos pages load no third-party advertising or analytics scripts.
First-party measurement
To understand how people find and use Speakdos, the app sends short measurement events to Speakdos's own server — for example that the home page was viewed, a lesson was started, a learning milestone was reached or checkout was opened. Each event can carry:
- the event name and the time it happened;
- the device reference and visit reference described above;
- traffic labels from the link you arrived by: source, medium and campaign, a referral or QR code, and the host name of the referring site (never the full address);
- the page path, interface language, a device class (phone, tablet or desktop — the full browser identifier is discarded), and which version of a page you saw when Speakdos is testing a change;
- a salted digest the server computes from your connection and browser that changes every day. The IP address used to compute it is not stored;
- your approximate location, as described in the next section.
Measurement never includes your email, name, password, card details, lesson answers or recordings. Payments are recorded only from Stripe's confirmed notifications, never from the browser.
Learning activity. Since this feature was released (late September 2026), the app also counts learning interactions — a lesson or game started, a question answered, a game move, a lesson completed — so Speakdos can see at what times of day, where and on which lessons people learn. These are sent in small batches with the other measurement events. Each batch records which kind of interaction happened, on which lesson, section or game, how many times, and when; the time zone your browser reports (for example America/Mexico_City), so activity can be shown in your local hour; and, when you are signed in, a salted one-way digest of your account id so the same learner on two devices is counted once. It never includes what you answered or whether it was right, and opening or leaving a page open is not counted.
Approximate location
Source. Speakdos is hosted on Netlify. For each request to Speakdos's server, Netlify supplies an approximate location that Netlify derives from the connecting IP address. Speakdos does not look up your IP address itself, does not use any other location service, never asks your browser for its location and never uses GPS. The site's own settings turn off the browser location feature entirely.
What is kept. Only the country, the region or state, and the city, when Netlify supplies them. The IP address, map coordinates, postal code and the time zone Netlify derives are not stored (the only time zone kept is the one your browser reports with learning activity, described above). The location is attached to measurement events, and to your Speakdos account record at the moment the account is created (when you first accept the Educational Disclaimer).
Purpose. A report for Speakdos administrators showing, in aggregate, which countries, regions and cities Speakdos's visits, learners, new accounts and purchases come from, and through which channels. The report shows counts for areas, not individuals, and a purchase is placed at the location recorded for the account or its first visit — the payment itself is never located.
Accuracy. IP-based location is approximate. VPNs, privacy relays, workplace networks and mobile carriers can place you in another city, region or country. It describes where a request appeared to come from, not where anyone lives.
Your browser's privacy signals. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, no location is recorded: the event is still counted, marked as having its location withheld. There is no pop-up and nothing to click.
When it started. Approximate location has been recorded only from 25 September 2026 onward. Earlier records have no location and none was added to them afterwards.
Accepting the Educational Disclaimer & Terms
When you accept, Speakdos creates an account record for your device reference and records which version you accepted, your interface language, the time, your approximate location as above, a salted one-way hash of your IP address (not the address itself) and your browser identifier (up to 300 characters), as evidence of the acceptance.
Payments and memberships
Purchases are made through Stripe Checkout. Your card details go to Stripe and never reach Speakdos. Speakdos keeps a copy of what Stripe reports about a purchase: the Stripe customer and payment identifiers, the email address and name on the Stripe customer, the amount, currency and status, the membership and its dates, discounts applied, refunds and receipt links.
Signing in
Restoring a membership on a new device, and the administrators' dashboard, use Netlify Identity. Netlify Identity keeps the email address of the account and sends the confirmation email; Speakdos checks that the address was confirmed.
Ambassador Program and testimonials
If you apply to the Ambassador Program, Speakdos keeps what you submit (such as name, email, country, platforms, handle, audience size and payout method) together with the time you accepted its terms, a salted hash of your IP address and your browser identifier. If you submit a testimonial, Speakdos keeps what you wrote and the publishing choices you made.
Who can see it
Speakdos administrators, through a dashboard that requires an administrator sign-in. The measurement and location reports show aggregate counts. Records are held with the service providers that run Speakdos: Netlify (hosting, database and sign-in) and Stripe (payments).
How long it is kept
Speakdos has not set an automatic deletion period for the records described here; they remain in Speakdos's database until they are deleted. What is stored in your browser remains until you clear this site's data, except the visit reference, which is removed when the tab closes.
Your choices
- Turn on Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track in your browser to stop location from being recorded.
- Clear this site's data in your browser to remove your settings, progress and device reference from that browser. A new device reference is created on your next visit.
- To ask about, or ask for deletion of, records Speakdos holds, contact Speakdos LLC.
Changes
If Speakdos changes what it records, this page will be updated and its date changed.
